Caño Negro news and articles
“Worth the trip.”
“We just returned from Costa Rica about a week ago (mid Feb). What an amazing trip. Our stay at Cano Negro Natural Lodge was one of the highlights. We had a great guide on the lagoon tour and learned so much about the wetlands habitat – great pictures too. The lodge is as good as it looks in these pictures – crisp and clean, comfortable rooms. The staff was friendly and helpful. The buffet food was excellent – we did not try the a la carte menu. The gardens are just lovely. Yes, we will return to Cano Negro.” – Liz Lawrence, Ottawa, Canada
Before leaving, we were not sure about whether to have this tour from Arenal as a day excursion, or to spend the night right in Caño Negro. No doubts now! If you have your own vehicle, I would highly recommend to overnight in Caño Negro. It is a good place to visit after or before Volcán Tenorio.
The Lodge itself is very convenient, with comfortable A/C rooms and excellent staff, who do their best to help and offer information. The gardens with swimming pool are lovely, a good place to start your birding experience before going on a boat tour.
My husband and I were booked here by the tour group we used, Costa Rica Gateway Tours. We traveled in the off season, so there were not many guests here–just two other parties whom we saw only at dinner. The rooms are in blocks spread out over the beautifully landscaped grounds, accessible by paths, which were well-lit at night. Flowers and ornamental shrubs and trees. There was a pool, but we didn’t use it. There was AC, and it was very quiet and efficient. Comfortable beds, spacious bathroom. Coffee pot, blow dryer. Possibly a TV, but we don’t watch TV, so I often take no notice of whether there is one or not. No wifi in the rooms, but it worked in the dining room. The food was excellent for both breakfast and dinner. We took a boat tour on the flooded river to find birds early in the morning, and I highly recommend it. It’s stunningly beautiful at 6am in Caño Negro, and we saw lots of birds.
